Acompañantes Fronterizos de Esperanza (Borderland Companions of Hope)
Acompañantes Fronterizos de Esperanza is a faith-based, grass-roots ministry committed to walking with immigrant individuals and families as they navigate the immigration system in the borderlands. Inspired by the Gospel and the Franciscan spirit of hospitality, we offer compassionate accompaniment that honors the dignity of each person and bears witness to Christ’s presence in the vulnerable. We believe that hope is born in presence – of being with, and that sacred accompaniment is a work of justice and mercy.
We strive to do this by:
Accompaniment: We walk with our sister and brother immigrants to immigration court and check-ins, offering a calm, compassionate, and peaceful presence during difficult moments.
Detention Center Visits: Visiting individuals held in immigration detention centers to offer human connection, prayer, and encouragement in times of isolation.
Spiritual and Emotional Support: Grounded in the Franciscan tradition, we offer spiritual accompaniment and gentle listening to those we accompany.
Presence: Our accompaniment is not legal representation, but a ministry of being with—a visible sign that no one journeys alone.
Advocacy through Witness: By publicly standing with our sister and brother immigrants, we raise awareness of the realities they face and advocate for dignity and justice.
We are currently seeking volunteers to accompany individuals and families to court and to visit those detained in the detention center in Otero, NM. We work in collaboration with the Migrant Hospitality Office of the Diocese of El Paso.
